Our Philosophy

Palm Grove Preschool has a rich history of community connection and strong support from parents, families and local community. This statement reflects the Early Years Learning Framework, the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework, the National Quality Standards, Early Childhood Code of Ethics and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Our philosophy is continually evolving with new insights from educators, children, families, and community.

We Believe

  • Children learn best when they engage in a play based program which supports all areas of learning. Children are capable and competent learners.

  • The safe space offered provides each child with the opportunity for long periods of uninterrupted play, where they are able to feel meaningful connection with their peers and educators.

  • Instilling a sense of belonging in children is crucial for their overall development and well-being.

  • Each child develops and learns in their own unique way.

We Value

  • Positive and respectful relationships with families. Reciprocal relationships are best developed within a warm, welcoming, and culturally relevant environment.

  • The contribution families make as a child’s first and most influential educators. We encourage and empower families to be actively involved in their child’s learning journey.

  • Our place within the local community. As a parent managed preschool, we aim to foster meaningful connections to build a foundation of support for families and children.

We Understand

  • Through ongoing critical reflection, we acquire greater understanding and meaning, which then influences our work with children, families, and the wider community.

  • The EYLF and VEYLDF along with the children’s interest and abilities are the foundation of our programming and practices.

  • Through a combination of teacher- and child-initiated learning where children can participate at their own pace, we are able to promote child safety, health and nutrition, and sustainability principles.
